Creating Web Food – Quick Intro to a Quality Website

When thinking about the great information highway, there are a few misconceptions of how it is derived. Some people don’t care, or it may be over their head. In the realm of Web Creation, there are many artifacts that compose a “Quality” Website:

  1. Quality Graphics/Design
  2. Quality Content
  3. Quality Performance
  4. Quality End User Experience

If you didn’t notice that “Quality” is the keyword. When deciding what you are going need to deliver a quality website, think about what you sauce is going to taste like. Yes is said it, Web Sauce is an important attribute to your site. Remember that not everyone will like it, but you should make it to suite your customers. First to start off let me give you a recipe of what your site should be cooking with.

Web Sauce

  • ½ cup of Content Infrastructure (Database Driven/Searchable, Security/Safety, Reusable Services, Rich Content Media)
  • ¼ cup of Visual Awesomeness that catches the attention of your guest/audience
  • ¼ cup of “That was Easy” (K.I.S.S)

As we all know content is KING, but beware, too much content is scary. Content Developers have a tendency to not be able to address this issue. Wordy content that is not straight to the point results in your customers leaving, because your sauce is too rich.

Currently we are in the age of mixed content media, using video as a great attention grabber. Let’s face it. Have you ever been stuck watching the Food Network for an insane amount of time, and thinking about all the things you can eat/prepare? This is the same thing your site should be doing. Engaging your customers to want more or try your product.

When looking for a head chef to create your master piece, knowing their background is key. Listed below is list of things your chef may possess:

Core Functionality (Preparation)

Graphic Designer

Web Designer

Content Developer

Software Engineer

Web Architect

If you notice from the list above, your will probably be looking for a Web Architect. Web Architects are usually equipped with the knowledge to construct a complete site, and they know what their limitations are. They have resources necessary to provide the tasty dish that you are looking for.

Typically consulting firms will equip themselves with individuals that all possess these talents to construct your site. This usually creates a ton of overhead for them, and inflates the cost for developing your site. Beware of offshore consulting firms promising to deliver you quality sauce with processed pricing. J

Language barriers can effect interpretation of what you’re looking for versus what you’re going to receive.

There are also solutions available for you to bake up your own masterpiece, such as web templates, and web site builders. These are great if you are just looking to put up a site to convey the “THIS IS Me!” factor. Site of this is my service, this is how you get it, and this is my first day. People recognize these sites as low budget, boutique sites.
